Background ‘Parents and Carers’
Under the section ‘Stay Safe’ in ‘Every Child Matters’
there is a clear statement that ‘parents, carers, and families provide
safe homes and stability’. At ‘Parents and Carers’ it declares, ‘Parents,
carers and families are the most important influence on children and
young people's outcomes. The Change for Children programme aims to
ensure that support for parents becomes routine, particularly at key
points in a child or young person's life. All schools actively seek
to engage parents in children and young people's education helping
parents to understand what they can do at home to work with the school.
talk2me provides a bridge whereby schools which ‘actively seek to
engage parents in children and young people's education’ can encourage
parents who may have been unwilling hitherto to participate, and those
who have, to do so more fully and effectively.
